24th April 2023: End of Season Review

For the Men’s section, the league tables suggest a disappointing season: The Mens 1s finished in the relegation zone and the Mens 2s slipped from a previous runners-up finish to mid-table. That narrative is mostly a reflection of long-term availability and injury challenges, disguising some important positives: players across the club consistently stepped up and worked hard for difficult 1s fixtures. Some very fine-margin defeats, with a scattering of impressive results, meant the 1s fought to the very end (and they may yet get a reprieve, depending on league structuring, because of that fight). Meanwhile, a new-look 2s with quite a few beginners played against opposition that were significantly stronger than previous years, who were often playing as supported sides. Much individual and team improvement was made. There are grounds for optimism for the 23/24 season, for both teams.

The Ladies were once more the stand-out achievers, notching up win after win, playing dominant, free-scoring hockey. Promotion just eluded them when the strains of availability at a small club pulling towards the end of the year, but they have every reason to be proud of themselves.

Summer League is already up and running, and the club awards night took place on 21st April:
